Summary:
Provides a brief overview of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. Describes in detail current TANF work rules as they apply to adults in TANF cash assistance cases and the work participation standards that States must meet. Discusses work and job preparation activities of TANF adults in FY2000. Analyzes the increase in work participation that would have been necessary and some of the potential issues involved in meeting the increased work requirements had the Bush Administration proposal been fully effective in FY2000.
