- Examines Euro-Mediterranean Partmership Initiative, which established an expanded agenda of cooperation between European Union (EU) and non EU Mediterranean (MED) countries (known as the Barcelona Process), including creation of a Euro-MED free trade area to be established by 2010. Reviews political context of the Barcelona Process. Examines three major components of the Barcelona Process: political and security cooperation, economic and financial cooperation, and socio-cultural and human cooperation. Discusses economic and environmental implications of the Process, prospects and limitations, U.S. interest and implications for Middle East peace process.
