Summary:
Reports on current and planned levels of materials in the national defense stockpile (NDS). Also describes FY93 legislation to allow disposal of materials from NDS, and Defense Department disposal action through 3/1/95. Includes tables. The NDS, created by the Strategic and Critical Materials Stock Piling Act of 1946, exists to supply the military, industry, and essential civilian needs of the U.S. in time of national emergency, and to obviate U.S. dependence on foreign materials sources.
