Summary:
Discusses recent Iraqi and Iranian air attacks against oil tankers and freighters in the Persian Gulf. Assesses threat posed to petroleum supplies, and reviews accompanying increases in price for crude oil and products worldwide. Considers potential escalation of Iran-Iraq conflict to other countries in region, and addresses challenges in in identifying threshold beyond which U.S. and allies might intervene to contain conflict.
