Summary:
Georges Focus, born in Châteaudun in 1639/40, died in Paris in 1708. The King's pensionary sent to Rome by Charles Errard from 1666 to 1671, he was received as an academician in 1675. Painter and engraver, close to Francisque Millet and Etienne Allegrain, he died "shut up in small houses", hospital created in Paris in 1557. Originally, this asylum for unbalanced people, was a legless. Some of these etchings are preserved at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris, the Museum of Fine Arts Besançon and the Louvre. Most of these works represent landscapes of the Roman countryside and are inspired by Gaspard Dughet. The drawings of Edinburgh, made around 1694 while the artist was locked up because gone crazy, are interesting not only because of their workmanship but also because of the comments that accompany them, which are full of anecdotes about 17th century artistic life. His life as well as his work remained little known, are rediscovered.--Société des amis du Musée des Beaux Arts de Bordeaux
