Summary:
Jan Banning (1954) ging op zoek naar locaties in vijf landen (India, Italië, Nepal, Portugal en Rusland) waar de communistische geest nog rondwaart en soms zelfs nog heerst. In steden en (soms afgelegen) stadjes legde hij met zijn camera de interieurs van communistische partijkantoren met hun vaak uitbundige iconografie vast: rode vlaggen en vaandels, en portretten van Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin en Mao en van nationale partijleiders en ideologen. Soms zijn ook de lokale partijactivisten gefotografeerd. Vanachter het bureau kijken ze geconcentreerd in de lens. Bannings foto's kenmerken zich door een zorgvuldige hantering van compositie en licht. Exhibition: Museum de Fundatie, Zwolle, The Netherlands (14.10.2017-07.01.2018).
