Summary:
Citing established evidence that victims of childhood abuse are more likely to engage in criminal or anti-social behavior, US criminologist Vaske explores possible genetic factors in who is abused, and who among victims commit crimes in later life. In particular, she examines two types of gene-environment relationships related to criminal behavior and substance use for males and females. One is whether five genetic polymorphims are indirectly related to criminal behavior and alcohol/drug use through different types of victimization. The other is whether the five polymorphisms moderate the effects of different kinds of victimization on criminal behavior and alcohol/drug use. In both cases, she also investigates whether the effect varies by gender. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
