Summary:

Op het vlak van moderne en hedendaagse kunst en van architectuur, vertrekt Brussel niet van nul, wel integendeel, want op cultureel vlak heeft Brussel heel wat te bieden. Onze hoofdstad telt immers een groot aantal instellingen die gewijd zijn diverse artistieke disciplines. Het ontbrak de stad alleen nog aan een museum voor moderne en hedendaagse kunst, en aan een architectuurmuseum. Vandaar het project KANAL Centre Pompidou, dat gehuisvest is in de vroegere, 35 000 mø grote Citroëngarage op het IJzerplein. In afwachting van de werken, die tegen 2022/2023 klaar zouden zijn, besloot de Stichting Kanal om vanaf 5 mei 2018 een aanloopjaar in te richten. Zo zal dit mythische gebouw 13 maanden lang voor het publiek worden opengesteld. Men zal er, in samenwerking met het Centre Pompidou, verschillende tentoonstellingen, grote installaties en een tiental nog nooit eerder getoonde werken van Brusselse kunstenaars tonen. Tevens zal er plaats zijn voor een heel scala aan podiumkunsten. Inaugural exhibition: Kanal, Brussels, Belgium (05.05. - 03.06.2018).
