- Biography/History:
- Melé and his family lived Alcampo, Spain in the province of Huesca. He served in the Spanish Civil War under Franco's Nationalist Army in the 51st Division, 6th Bandera of Aragon on the Catalonian Front.
- Summary:
- A small collection of fourteen letters written in Spanish near the end of the Spanish Civil War. The letters are from Melé to his family spanning seven months from October 1938 to May 1939. In the letters Melé reassured his family: mother, father, grandparents, and his brother Antonio he was doing well and in good health. He noted receiving packages from home, living conditions, and traveling with the his division. Melé noted his position as an assistant to a medical lieutenant in February 1939 and later in the month worked exclusively a senior lieutenant. In letters dated February 23 and 26, 1939, Melé wrote of the sadness at the death of a cousin Joaquim who was wounded in battle at the front. In March 1939, the division traveled to Guadalajara. Melé noted the tranquility at the end of the war. Envelopes accompany each letter. Two stamps on envelopes: Falange Española Tradicionalista y de las J. O. N. S. Bandera de Aragon and Censura Militar.
