- Umrāʼo Alī (pen name Baqa and Azad) was the younger brother of Mumtaz Ali Ah. The Ali family (a branch of which is the al-Zaman) was an eminent literary family in Lucknow. Mumtaz Ali (pen name Ah), one of the most prolific members of the family, was born in Amethi near Lucknow 1863 and was the foremost student of the poet Amir Minai.
