Cataloged from imperfect copy: all before leaf A2 (including title leaf) and after leaf L3 wanting. Title devised and statement of responsibility inferred by cataloger from running titles. Terminus ante quem for imprint date from autographs dated 1694 in Penn Libraries copy.

Text of ABC page (leaf A4v) within border of type ornaments (14 fleurs-de-lis in horizontal rows and 15 fleurs-de-lis in vertical rows, all oriented to the corresponding leaf edge).

RBC copy has early ms. notes, calculations and pen tests on leaf A2r; early ms. ABC and pen tests on leaf A4v; many leaves numbered in early ms. (numbers occasionally damaged due to cropping of head outer corners of leaves); occasional ink blots and smears on leaves.

RBC copy has dated 17th-century autograph ("Josiah Galton 1694") at foot of leaf D1v; dated 17th-century autograph ("Josiah Galton 1694") and pen tests at foot of leaf D2r; dated 17th-century ms. ownership inscription ("Josiah Galton his book anno domi[ni] 1694") on leaf D4r.
RBC copy bound in a portion of a ms. parchment leaf containing a legal document related to the disposition of the property of John Galton, also mentioning his executor William Highmore and Elizabeth Galton Oliver, with early pen tests and some illegible ms. inscriptions on covers; the parchment leaf is roughly stitched to the textblock. Text visible on p.
