In The trilogy was first published in a single volume under the title "U.S.A." in 1938 by Harcourt, Brace. For this publication he made considerable revisions in "The 42nd Parallel" by adding a prologue entitled "U.S.A." which in conjunction with "Vag," the last sequence in "Big Money" provides a unifying framing device for the trilogy.
Pagination is not consecutive throughout with removal of each volume's preliminary leaves.

Spine has black panel with double bars stamped in gold at top and bottom, "Modern Library" printed in script and oval of Kent Torchbearer stamped below. Plain white lining papers.
