- Summary:
- This volume offers Bartók's "For Children" in two versions. First as it was published between 1909-1911 in four volumes. The first two volumes' titles were in Hungarian and German in while the third and fourth volumes held Czech and French titles. Then when Bartók moved to America, the first two volumes were revised to two editions - volume 1: Hungarian, and volume 2: Slovak arrangements. The present editors of the critical edition view these two versions of "For Children" to be two distinct versions, and the Complete Critical Edition therefore presents both versions in their entirety as parallel texts for easy comparison.
- Notes:
-
- The first volume published in a new critical edition of the works of Bartok. These little piano pieces were composed in 1908-09, and are all based on folk tunes. Includes introductory and critical notes.
