- Summary:
- A small, leather-bound book comprising the diary of Margaret Galbraith. Entries were made at irregular intervals spanning the years from 1866 to 1869. A few entries are dated 1881. Galbraith chiefly wrote devotions to God, attending sermons, and reading the Bible. She petitioned God throughout the diary for the guidance, forgiveness, and well-being. Margaret noted sermons she attended Bible passages she has read. She mentioned her health. Some entries discussed deaths including family members and pastor. In one entry Galbraith described a dream of her own death. Galbraith was probably a teacher. She mentions dismissing students from class. There are account notes at the beginning and end of the diary of payments made and received. A list of Margaret's expenses is at the end of the volume. Included in the volume is one recipe for lavender water. There is a possibility the diary was written by Margaret's sister Mary Galbraith. Some entries are signed M. Galbraith. The signature of William Galbraith is on the inside back cover.
