Summary:
The first big special exhibition in the new Kunsthalle Mannheim is dedicated to the international photo artist Jeff Wall (* 1946). His trademarks are large-scale backlit light boxes, which appear like carefully composed film stills. The art historian ties his works in manifold ways to art history and, due to his elaborate arrangements, is often compared to modern masters like Eugène Delacroix and Edouard Manet. The Kunsthalle Mannheim puts special emphasis on constellations which present the medium photography like a search for traces. Besides backlit light boxes and black-and white photographs, colourful C-prints are shown as his third important group of works. The exhibition, equipped with major loan exhibits, allows a new view on the artist?s works which have up until now rarely been shown in exhibitions. Exhibition: Kunsthalle Mannheim, Germany (02.06-09.09.2018) / Mudam Luxembourg, Musée d'art moderne Grand-Duc Jean. (06.10.2018-06.01.2019).
"The photographer and the chancellor: Personal anecdotes and photographs in this book tell the story of a nowadays not imaginable symbiosis between one of the best photographers and one of the most important chancellors of Germany. For ten years, Helmut Kohl was accompanied very closely by Konrad Rufus Müller. A unique historic document was created, an intimate view on the political and private person Kohl, on historic moments and the Palatine province. A trusted and discreet cooperation between a power player and a photographer, which peaked in the iconographic depictions of the chancellor of unity"--Publisher's website.
