" In every subject that is proper to display Nature; to promote Virtue; to help agreeable conversation; and to form the judgment in the several stages, degrees, offices, & stations of life. To which are added lists and extracts of all new books, debates, poetry, news, music, history, &c. And a compendious dictionary of arts and sciences, extracted from a celebrated work now publishing at Paris, carefully compared with Chambers; and improved from the best authors, dictionaries, memoirs, transactions, &c. in several languages; illustrated with a great number of copper plates engraved by the best hands, and given gratis. The whole intended to restore the declining state of magazines by a constant supply of true knowledge and real pleasure.
