Isaac Ware's translation of Palladio's work was later revised by Richard Earl of Burlington; This is the only issue of Ware's translation made from the original Italian ed. of 1570. Cf. Fowler.
Dedicated to Earl of Burlington whose assistance is acknowledged in the dedication.

Title-pages for each book vary according to contents: The second book ... wherein the designs of several houses ordered by him both within and out of the city are contained. And the designs of the antient houses of the Greeks and Latins. The third book ... wherein the ways, bridges, piazzas, basilica's and xisti are treated of. The fourth book ... wherein the antient temples that are in Rome are described and figured, & some others that are in Italy and out of Italy.
Contains a total of [212] engravings in various foliations, interpolated with text, [205] of which are full page copper plates based on Palladio's designs and engraved by Isaac Ware. Engraved figures in text of Book I are designated as plates I-VII. Eeach book has continuous pagination, but with separately numbered plates.
The plates are traced and engraved exactly by Isaac Ware from Palladio's original woodcuts. Cf. P. [5].

Carpenters' Company copy inscribed: Robt. Smith his book Phila. Feb. 2: 1754 (Smith was Carpenters' Company member and builder of Carpenters' Hall); copy is missing final leaf; accession number 3335; first recorded in 1827 Carpenters' Company Library Catalogue as Folio 8.
