This enlarged edition was originally issued in parts between 1825 and 1827 and was a revision by John Bowen of Nicholson's work first issued under title: "The new carpenter's guide" (1792).

Contains [85] leaves of plates including frontispiece portrait of Nicholson "engraved on steel by Mr. Rogers"; other plates have date range 1825-1826 and are signed: Published as the act directs ... by Jones & Co, London.

Title is held at Carpenters' Hall in the Library of the Carpenters' Company of the City and County of Philadelphia. Access to the books is restricted and available to researchers only by permission requested in advance.

Carpenters' Company copy is incomplete, missing all after p. 80 as well as plates [81]-[84]; in this copy the imprint date is covered over by label reading "65 Chatham Street, New York", but this is probably 1828 edition based on record from British Architectural Library (Cf. RIBA Early Printed Books catalogue #2291); inscribed: Charles Hotton January 20th, 1833; also inscribed: George R. Lennard June 20/55 New York and with presentation label on front pastedown: Presented to the Carpenters' Company by Harry S. Goodwin, in memory of Major George Royer Lennard, carpenter, builder and merchant of Wilkes Barre, Pa; first recorded in 1840 Carpenters' Company Library Catalogue as no. 132.
