Athenaeum copy: Vol. 1 of Athenaeum copy bears flyleaf with note in the hand of George Vaux, VII (1779-1836): "Joseph & Beulah Sansom appear to have left Phila on or about 2 mo 18.1799. They got no further than Fort Mifflin up to 3 Mo 10 having [been] detained by ice in the river. Mary Prior was a passenger on the same trip. They were released from the ice a few days later & on the 14th were at Port Penn. On the 12th of 4 Mo 1799 they were at Graves End where they were required to land and await passports to travel to London. It appears that they had finally left the Capes of the Delaware on 17th of 3d Mo. The voyage was a most tempestuous & disagreeable one. Mary Pryer [sic] an English Friend was a passenger on the same voyage."

Athenaeum copy: The Vaux bequest of 1996 consists of books from the library of the prominent Philadelphia Quaker family established in America by James Vaux (1748-1812) who emigrated in 1771. Most of the books are inscribed by George Vaux VII (1779-1836), George Vaux VIII (1832-1915), George Vaux IX (1863-1927), and the donor George Vaux X (1908-1996).
Athenaeum copy: Flyleaves on both vols. signed by George Vaux VII (1779-1836) and also inscribed as "1715 Arch St."
