Notes:
No building identification or date is given. Identification given on the mounting board reads "Compliments of Simonson & Pietsch, Architects", with the photographer's embrossed stamp "The Hughes Co., Baltimore." A fuller stamp on the verso reads "Jas. F. Hughes Co., Photography, 754 W. Baltimore St., Baltimore, Md." This labelling suggests a distribution & usage perhaps to advertise the architects, but not for the building project itself for these items. These prints were found with Rankin & Kellogg materials, but no project affiliation is known.
These are photographs of architectural drawings. They are unlabelled, but show: [1] Lower floor plan, including a Gymnasium, running track, showers & lockers, lunch room, boiler & janitor's room [2] main floor, including reception room, faculty room, class rooms, physical laboratory, and auditorium [3] side elevation [4] longitudinal section.
Dorsey & Dilt's A Guide to Baltimore architect (1981) gives the architect's names (p.285) as Theodore W. Pietsch, 1868-1930 and Otto Simonson, 1862-1922. This source notes that Pietsch opened his office in Baltimore in 1904, suggesting that this building was probably designed by the architects between 1904 & 1922. Century of Baltimore architects (1957) in it's Index to Baltimore architects lists "Pietsch, Theo. Wells" and "Simonson, Otto G.". For Simonson & Pietsch the list includes Eastern High School and the Maryland Institute among their buildings.
Forms part of: Doe collection of architectural drawings of the buildings by Rankin & Kellogg/Rankin, Kellogg & Crane/L. Adrian Doe.
