Hassan Moustapha Ali was the adopted name of black architect Tyrone S. Hoagland. Hassan was born Feb. 19, 1957 and died Mar. 8, 1988, shortly before these items were given to the Athenaeum. This data was provided by Hassan's brother, Najee T. Ali. Other drawings in this collection show Ali using the Hoagland name in 1979, on a student project at Drexel, bui using Ali, i.e. initials HMA, on drawings for his work at the firm Baker Rothschild Horn Blyth in 1983. The set on this record, dated June 1981, is the earliest known work in the Collection using the Ali name. A set of drawings dated 1987 shows Ali in affiliation with another unidentified architect in the firm Ali - Johnson Architecture.
