- These drawings were prepared in conjunction with the archaeological excavation of the garden of the Athenaeum of Philadelphia, which is part of the site of the old Walnut Street Prison. The excavation was conducted the Summer of 1973, and is documented by the 1988 Athenaeum publication, The Walnut Street Prison Workshop. The prison, which stood at the corner of Walnut & 6th St., was demolished, ca. 1835-36. The Athenaeum was constructed in 1844-47, on the part of the site which fronts on 6th St., with the short Randolph St. at the rear & St. James St. at the left side of the building, next to the Penn Mutual Building. ATH*00x*003 shows that the back wall of the Prison stool on the site of the Athenaeum. The title block and identification of these drawings is incomplete. It is not known if final official Park Service drawings were prepared.
