- Notes:
- Title from two July 30, 1850 floor plans. Two other drawings refer to the church as the Central Universalist Church.
- A perspective drawing of the church is found in Philadelphia then and now (1936) by Henry B. McIntire. McIntire's rendering is dated 1935, and shows the building at the northeast corner of Locust and Juniper Sts. The caption calls the church the Universalist Church of the Messiah, built in 1851, and removed in 1890, to be replace by two residences by Wilson Eyre.
- Four of the drawings included here, WTU*003-006 appear to be for the church as built, showing a two-story church, with a crenalate front facade. Two other drawings, WTU*053*001-002, showing a very different style, have been attributed to the Universalist Church due to Walter diary entries. These entries dated in July of 1850 link a Mr. Rogers to the Universalist Church, and Mr. Rogers to J. Lindsay, for whom Walter did "two fronts for a church" on July 12, 1950. These two fronts are suggested as an early alternative design, but may be for a different church, unidentified.
