- Walter's diary entries in March of 1870 include on Mar. 7th "Occupied all day & evening at designs for Methodist church in Balt., corner of Mt. Vernon & Charles Streets." and Mar. 10th "Occupied all the morning writing descriptive letter and opinion in reference to Balt., Methodist Ch., directed to Gen. Jno. S. Berry, Baltimore, Md." A copy of this letter is included in the Athenaeum's Walter Archives, along with a letter dated May 12, 1870 in which Walter appears to acknowledge the loss of the project to another architect, Mr. Dixon. Walter's drawings show a gothic style to a church which is different, but still similar to the Eutaw Place Baptist Church, also in Baltimore. Walter began designing Eutaw Place in 1868, and construction had just begun in the Spring of 1870 when he created these drawings for the Methodist Church.
