- Physical Description:
- 1 drawing : ink on paper ; 62 x 122 cm.
- Contained In:
- Walter, Thomas Ustick. Architectural drawings collection.
- Place of Publication:
- ca. 1853.
- Notes:
- This drawing is unidentified, and is preliminary in nature, showing two images, the front elevation and main floor plan in outline. The building is visually identified by match of the elevation here to a very similar building rendered in perspective in a photograph of a Walter drawing at the Fogg. The drawing has Walter's signature, and has other inscriptions, including the signature "R. McClelland, Secretary" to the right. The title used here is taken from the identification on that drawing. Laverty identified this as "St. Elizabeth's Hospital", source of identification unknown.
- Walter's diary of 1852 has on Feb. 19 "Made study of Insane Asylum for Gov't." and on Feb. 28 ""Finished plan and elevation for Insane Asylum in the District of Columbia, as per order of the Commissioners of Pub. Bldg." No other diary entries have yet been traced, but a letter from Walter to [John?] A. McAllister, Esq. includes among a list of several buildings erected by Walter a "Government Hospital for the Insane".
- Forms part of: Walter, Thomas Ustick. Architectural drawings collection.
