Derived title.
Illustrations include 2 architectural renderings of proposed stage sets in color, shown within the context of the Philadelphia Arena; 3 sketches of figures in costume, roughly identified and labeled with page numbers, perhaps from a reference book or catalog; 1 sketch and 6 cutout figures in costumes, most labeled and generally shown leaping.
No drawings give the creator's name, but all material has been attributed to George A. Robbins based upon his other known work for these ice carnivals found in the George A. Robbins architectural materials collection. Manuscripts in the Robbins's collection indicate that the Philadelphia Skating Club Carnival of the Philadelphia Skating Club and Humane Society, was to be held Jan. 27-28, 1939. These drawings were created for a proposed program based upon a theme loosely adapted from the Dante's Divine Comedy. However, a letter to Mr. W. Singerly Smith from Robbins, dated Dec. 19, 1938 states that this idea was "thrown out for use as a subject of the Skating Club Carnival". This letter also states "Until the Divine Comedy idea was thrown out, you had a good chance to get some work from us to repay your effort in making that handsome sketch." It is unknown whether this is a reference to sketches included here.
Forms part of: Robbins, George A. George A. Robbins architectural materials collection.
