Ballinger log book 1, p. 61, "Miscellaneous" projects, lists photo numbers 414 and 444, for "Surpass Leather Co., J.P. Mathieu". No. 414 appears to show the building at the end of construction & reads "Surpass Leather Company" on one side of the building, and "J.P. Mathieu & Co., Surpass Glazed Kid Works" on the other side. No. 444 is an architectural plan. Log book 1, p. 70, "Miscellaneous" projects, lists photo number 489, for the "Surpass Kid Wks. (J.P. Mathieu)". This is photo of a published birds-eye view, including the data used in the title above. The original image has bottom right "Hales & Ballinger, architects & engineers, West & Hahn, Pa." It also reads "Sold exclusively by Booth & Co., New York, Boston and London, Eng." and shows an additional warehouse building labelled "Warehouse of J.P. Mathieu and Co." Log book 1, p. 72, "Miscellaneous" projects, lists photo nos. 1977, 1979-1981, 1991 for the "Surpass Glazed Kid Works".

Photo no. 489 shows the trade mark in the upper left corner as a three-leaf clover with "Surpass Kid" printed within.
