Ballinger log book 1, p. 162, lists photo numbers for three different Jacob Gerhardt buildings in Hazleton: [1] an industrial building destroyed by fire, Kodak snapshot photos, nos. 1547-1552, cataloged separately [2] photo no. 2181, an architectural drawing for an automobile garage with showroom, cataloged separately [3] Photo nos. 226-227 of Gerhardt & Friedlander's stores, including "The Leader" department store, cataloged here. Also, Ballinger log book 2, p. 94 has the entry: "Gerhardt & Friedlander, photo no. 2320, Building [The Leader]" Photo number 2320 is absent from this collection. Title data above is taken from information in log book 1. The date is estimated from neighboring 222x photos.
Photo no. 2226 shows a street scene with a corner view of a building which includes the "B.P.O.E. 200" Elks above in the first unit & Teller & Co. below them, while the remainder of the building has "The Leader department store. In the next building is "The Boston Store", Cars & figures are shown and a railroad track runs down the street. Photo no. 2227 is a frontal view of the corner building, showing signs on "The Leader" which read "Women's & children's wearing apparel" "The Leader, Hazleton's low price store" and "Dry goods, fancy goods, home furnishings."
