Notes:
Ballinger log book 3, p. 32 lists photo numbers 3657-3662, 3681-3683 and 3868-3870. Photo nos. 3868-3870 are misidentified with this location. They are renderings of a high rise office building, which has been identified elsewhere (Ballinger log book 3, p. 67) as proposed drawings for the Pennsylvania Mutual Life Insurance Co. at Arch & 17th Streets & the Parkway, Philadelphia. It is not known if these photos are misidentified with the Pennsylvania Co., or if the Company was involved with the planning of the same or a similar building for the Water St. site.
Ballinger log book 3, p. 33 lists two of these same photo numbers, 3658 & 3661 for "Birdsong, Philada., Pa.". The associated addresses are 210-228 N. Delaware Ave., but no clue to the meaning of "Birdsong", or relationship to the Pennsylvania Co., is given in the photos.
Addresses included in the photos of Pennsylvania Co. properties are: Nos. 225, 223, 221, [219] & 217 N. Water St., and also the unnumbered [215] Water St., shown in photo no. 3657. No. 213 shown in photo no. 3662 and Nos. 210-228 N. Delaware Ave. The Delaware Ave. information is given in the log book, but not showing in the photo no. 3658. Photo nos. 3660 and 3681-3683 are views of Pier No. 12 North, including a building labelled "Baltimore and Ohio Freight Station." This pier may have a Port Richmond location, placing it far north of the Delaware & Water St. addresses.
Signs on no. 217 in photo no. 3657 read "H.K. Kindig & Co., Wholesale - Grocers." No. [215] in this same photo reads "Founded 1778. W.H. & Fordan, Jr., Oils & Chemicals." Photo no. 3662 shows the handwritten address "213" near the "Rusk Oil" letters.
Forms part of: Ballinger Company. Architectural photographs of the work of Ballinger & Perrot, and the successor Ballinger Company.
Local Notes:
Athenaeum copy: Gift of the Ballinger Co.,
