One of several blueprints of this composite of Cret images which Mr. Coxe had made to send as Christmas greetings during 1980. Descriptive card enclosed with drawing reads: Washington Arch at Valley Forge Park, Valley Forge, Pa. The arch bears the inscription quoted from Washington at Valley Forge, December 26, 1777: "Naked and starving as they are, we cannot enough admire the incomparable patience and fidelity of the soldiery". The Washington Arch was designed by Architect Paul Cret in 1910-11 and constructed in 1912-13. This print is a composite of original working drawings which were drafted in 1911 by John F. Harbeson, FAIA as his first assignment in the Cret office. Mr. Harbeson, now 92 and still active, is currently consulting with is successor firm, H2L2 Architects/Planners, on the restoration of the arch to stand another 70 years or more watching over the Valley Forge battlefield.
