- Notes:
- These drawings were previously subsumed under Laverty title "William C. Elliott Residence, Maple Hill Rd., Gladwyne, Pa." with Walter K. Durham as the architect. Evidence on the drawings themselves give "Durham and Irvine" as architects for the original 1930's house, and suggests that this was Durham & Irvine House no. 165. Perhaps an early client, identified as "Miss Kuntz", is given in the pencilled notes in the margin of Sept. 1935 drawings. "Mr. William C. Elliott" is only given in a formal title identification in the 1938(?) drawing for the barn. Durham's 1957 alterations & additions, done for the Elliotts, are cataloged separately, as are Durham drawings for a house in Maine. A Thomas W. Sears grading plan for the W.C. Elliott Estate, dated Feb. 1937, is also cataloged separately.
- See includes subcontractor drawings for structural steel from Robt. B. Lederle & Co.
- Jan. 10, 1938 "Proposed barn" drawing has a note "Mr. Alexander: Will send you a sketch of louvre".
- Drawing *038 notes drawings to be sent to "Mr. Hudson", who may have worked for Durham on the construction or estimating. Correspondence for the 1957 renovation includes a reference to "T.C. Hudson" in a specification document.
- Drawings accompanied by: [1] 14 letters to Durham & Irvine, dated Mar. through June 1937, from Percival M. Sax, C.E., consulting engineer, Philadelphia, Pa., concerning the progress of construction at the site, "Re: House no. 165". [2] Written specifications & notes, on yellow notebook paper, dated in Feb. & Mar. 1937. [3] Two manuscript items dated Feb. 12, 1964. The typed letter, addressed to Mr. Elliott, from Durham, unsigned, states that the design for the Elliott house [House 165], was based upon Pine Forge Furnace Mansion, home of Max Rutter, originally Thomas Rutter, probably by the master craftsman Anthony Drexel. Mrs. Elliott's first name "Anita" is provided in this letter.
- Forms part of: Durham, Walter K. Architectural records.
