Summary:
Perspective drawing of a proposed neoclassical building, later rejected for an Italianate style structure, which became the first public building to be built in the Italianate style in the United States. The view is from 6th Street looking across to the corner of 6th and Adelphia Streets (now St. James) showing both the 6th Street facade and the longer Adelphia Street facade. Drawing reads "Athenaeum Philadelphia, J. Notman. Archt."
