- The Theophilus P. Chandler, Jr. collection of architectural graphics & records at the Athenaeum of Philadelphia was created by deed of gift from the Chandler family in 1988, through [1] the transfer of materials previously on loan to the University of Pennsylvania Architectural Archives,[2] the transfer of T.P. Chandler, Jr.'s library from Brown University, and [3] with the continuing addition of materials received from the family.
- Materials received from the University of Pennsylvania transfer included six student drawings, twenty-three rubbings from English churches, 53 non-architectural drawings, oils & watercolors, architectural drawings & sketches related to his architectural projects, office records (1885-1890), diary (1877), and 15 photographs, including portraits. An inventory of the items, as received, is available. Some material has been newly documented or reidentified during cataloging.
- The collection includes some family papers and drawings related to the Chandler family. These were received in a tin box, marked "Estate of EJC", Elizabeth Julie Schlatter Chandler, Chandler's mother. His mother was from a prominent Philadelphia family. A blueprint in the collection documents the Chandler Family Estate in Brookline, Mass. Chandler's father was prominent Boston lawyer & businessman.
