- These drawings are believed to be part of a competition which included William Strickland, John Haviland, Thomas Ustick Walter, John Trautwine, and Kneass for plans for the Pennsylvania Hospital for the Insane. See other competition drawings cataloged separately. These drawings are believed to be for the site at 8th & Pine St., as verified by Kneass's Pine Street elevation. But by Aug. 1835, the Hospital Contributors had overruled the Hospital Board in favor of a site at 44th & Market Sts. The building as built was by Isaac Holden, who may have been a competitor or a consultant in the 1833/34 competition. See references in RLIN PAPV93-F486.
