- Greiff states that this project was proposed for construction at Market and Schuykill Fifth Streets [Philadelphia] and that the commission went to S.D. Button.
- Tatman and Moss, Biographical dictionary of Philadelphia architects, 1700-1930, p.122-123, lists two separate Button commissions for which Notman may have submitted all or some of these drawings in competition: [1] Columbia & PA RR, depot, Market & 18th sts., Phila., 1852. [2] PA RR Co., office & bldgs., 18th-19th & Chestnut Sts., and 3rd & Willing's Alley, Phila., 1856.
- O'Gorman, et al. Drawing toward building, p.110-111, treats the Pennsylvania Railroad Offices, located on the site of the former Willing mansion, as a separate project, dated c. 1856 (NOT55.2-NOT55.4)from the freight depot of 1852 (NOT55.1)
