Summary:
" Considered to be the most iconic Indian garment, the saree goes thousands of years back in history. In it's relatively recent emergence internationally, the saree has been applauded for it's celebration of femininity and it's fluidity as a costume that can be refashioned to suit changing times. However, it's global presence as an Indian garment alone elides an understanding of the socio-cultural inflections that render each region's saree (within India) with a formidable identity of it's own. The film explores some of these regional variations by traveling in time and to these regions and tracing the lineage of some regional prototypes of the saree. It also raises concerns about the survival of traditional weaves by looking at the dwindling numbers of traditional weavers in the face of technological innovations and rapidly changing market preferences."--Container.
