Notes:
There were at least 3 booksellers by the name of William Lee or "Ley" at work in London at this time. One of them worked at the Turk's Head ca. 1627-1675. Cf. Plomer, H.R. A dict. of the booksellers and printers ... from 1641 to 1667, 1907.
Head pieces, initials are the printer's mark of John Haviland. Cf. McKerrow, no. 392.
Local Notes:
Athenaeum copy: Gift of James Cox, 1814, thus one of the earliest books acquired by Athenaeum in the year of its founding.
Athenaeum copy lacks original t.p., but was replaced by a handwritten t.p. with several spelling mistakes. This supplied t.p. calls work a 1st ed. Frontispiece port. is missing too. Also, p. 93-94 and 99-100 missing. P. 41-44 in New Atlantis also handwritten.
