- Each of [96] plates is preceeded by leaf of explanatory text; each type of builing design is illustrated in plan, elevation and perspective views.
- First edition of the earliest and most influential of of Robinson's series of pattern books; most of Robinson's designs are in Tudor or related styles; also includes his innovative design for the "Swiss cottage" which was now first introduced as a building type in early 19th c. England. Cf. Hugh Pagan Ltd. Architecture catalog, v.8, p. 32.
- Robinson was one of the first British architects to make full use of the newly recently developed technique of lithography which enhanced texture, the effects of light and shade, and the general "picturesqueness" of architectural designs; lithography became an important method of architectural illustration after this time.
