An updated edition of Owen Biddle's work, first issued in Philadelphia in 1805 with the title: The young carpenter's assistant, or, A system of architecture, adapted to the style of building in the United States. ; Haviland's reissue of Biddle's work included a new introduction and an additional 20 plates "particularly adapted for country use." ; Hitchcock notes that Biddle's intention was to define his title as suitable for work in the United States, where, by this time, existed a building style clearly distinct from that of England.
This edition has new preface and plates 15-20, 25-28, 31, 32, 53-60 by Haviland.
