Title from caption.
Begun by Eliakim Littell in 1844, Living Age was an eclectic magazine, publishing varied material taken chiefly from British periodicals. Though it had a small circulation, it was important in bringing foreign literature to the American public. A special effort was made to select material which would interest American readers and nearly all the comment of British periodicals on American affairs appeared in it. There was some poetry, and a liberal amount of fiction. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
