- The first and only volume of Mr. Freeman's "History of federal government" appeared in 1863 under the title "History of federal government, from the foundation of the Achaian league to the disruption of the United States". The present work is merely a reprint of the older volume, with the addition of a new chapter on Italy, and a new fragment on Germany.
