- The first book (p. 1-88)--is an anonymous reprint of Leonard Mascall's Booke of the arte and maner, howe to plant and graffe all sortes of trees; the second book, A perfect platforme of a hop-garden, is by Reginald Scot, originally published in 1574 (cf. STC 2nd. ed., 5874 and 11562, in reference to an earlier edition).
- The second book has been enlarged with a section on planting tobacco. Thomas Barker's Art of angling has been added at the end.
- The second work has separate t.p.: A perfect platform of a hop-garden : and necessary instructions for the making and maintenance thereof ... London : Printed by T. Mabb, for William Shears ..., 1653.

- RBC copy has affixed to back pastedown ms. note ("I regret I have not been able to trace any information respecting this. We do not appear to have the 1653 edition of the 'Perfect Platform.' R.F.S.") from R. Farquharson Sharp on notepaper of the British Museum with printed statement "With the compliments of the [added in ms.: Deputy-]Keeper of Printed Books." and dated ms. note ("Reply to enquiry re authorship of Certaine directions for the sowing, planting, and transplanting of tabaco. 22:8:21.") in another hand at head.
