Summary:
Kewei was born in 1950 in a peasant family at the foot of the Himalayas, in the vast Chinese countryside. At the Ya'an market, on the shady Sichuan paths, in the fields and even at school, Kewei, drawing on his mother's entreaties, draws from morning to night. The collectivisation of the land is in full swing and the famine soon decimates the village. Spotted by a Red Guard, Kewei escapes agricultural work and permanent rehabilitation. His life is rocking. He goes to study at Beijing Fine Arts, leaving behind his mother, his young wife, their son and a village whose ancestral traditions are disappearing under the blows of the Revolution. In the big city, Kewei rubs shoulders with the masters of the new China, gets the Party card. Become a painter of the regime, his ascent knows no limit.--Babelio.
