Description: Letters relating to the New Zealand Company. Some ask for information or positions on ships bound for New Zealand, others include financial information and statements. Many deal with applications for positions, such as medical officers. Includes a printed treatise on harbours and plans for improvements of harbours in south-east England. There is also a report of the sub-committee appointed to consider the regulations on the sale of land and a printed booklet called 'Instructions to Surgeons of Emigrant Ships Sailing Under Government Superintendence'.

Notes:

The New Zealand Company was a chartered company formed in 1839 and incorporated in 1841 with power to buy, sell, settle and cultivate land in New Zealand. It did not prove a satisfactory agency for colonising New Zealand and was induced to surrender its charters in 1850. It was finally dissolved in 1858.
