- Description: Born in 1895, Filomena married in Italy when she was 16. Her husband travelled between the United States and Italy and she eventually sold the holding and left Italy via Naples in 1916. She describes how she did not like America at first as she could not speak the language, washing clothes to make a living, her husband's work on the railroad and then as a gardener, owning a boarding house, her seven children and getting a mortgage on the house.
