Summary:
Description: John Valentini is a third generation owner of A. Cavalli and Company, an Italian bookstore in North Beach. The family bought the business from another Italian family, the Cavallis, in the late 1930s. The Cavallis had started it in 1880 to serve the San Francisco Italian Community. John Valentini recalls the origin of the store in this interview, and its various moves to new locations. He talks about his parents and grandparent's history and their work and training. He also talks about his own involvement in the Italian Athletic Club, and his schooling and memories of growing up in San Francisco. Several photographs of the store are also included.
