Summary:

Italian treatise in six parts on the history and authority of the papal bull In Coena Domini, published annually in Rome on Maundy Thursday from the 14th century into the 18th, presenting categories of offenses punishable by excommunication with absolution only possible from the pope. The fourth and fifth parts consider the conflict between papal and civil powers. In 1768 following the excommunication of Ferdinand, Duke of Parma, by Clement XIII, several leaders of European countries issued edicts opposing this practice.
