The wars of religion that have bloodied the kingdom of France, we bequeath religion an image of violence and fanaticism, echoing our contemporary situation. However, as early as 1598, thanks to its edict of Nantes, France experimented with an original mode of coexistence between her religious denominations. It is the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685 that put an end to this face-to-face, erasing for a long time the spirits the singular success of these exceptional times. Twenty million Catholics and one million Protestants, following Luther, Calvin or the Council of Trent, sharing a largely common culture, have evolved together on our territory and experience a unique cohabitation. Their confrontation was accompanied by multiple borrowing and exchanges that this book explores through some great committed figures, from Theodore de Bèze to François de Sales, Catherine Lévesque to Marie de l'Incarnation.
