- Jerzy Grotowski (1933-1999) is widely considered one of the most important theatrical visionaries of the twentieth century. As director of the Laboratory Theatre in Poland, he became world-famous for creating a new kind of theatrical work that combined new configurations of actor and audience and provocative subject matter with virtuosic ensemble performance.
