Summary:
This book is a volume in a series of original chapters on all aspects of ancient philosophy. The chapters include critical notices of major books. The series is published twice yearly. The series, which presents itself more as an anthology than as a journal, has traditionally allowed space for lengthier studies. It allows as much space as the merits of the subject require and it is devoted to the best and most serious scholarship. This volume contains three chapters on Plato, five on Aristotle, one on Academic scepticism, and a review chapter on Michael Peramatzis’ recent book on Aristotle’s Metaphysics.
Contents:
Plato on the importance of 'this' and 'that' : the theory of flux and its refutation in the Theaetetus / Naly Thaler
The greatest difficulty at Parmenides 133 C-134 E and Plato's relative terms / Matthew Duncombe
Moral education and the spirited part of the soul in Plato's Laws / Joshua Wilburn
Found in translation : Aristotle's Nichomachean ethics 3.5, 1113b7-8, and its reception / Susanne Bobzien
Aristotle on primary time in Physics 6 / Benjamin Morison
Elemental structure and the transformation of the elements in On generation and corruption 2.4 / Mary Krizan
Optimality reasoning in Aristotle's natural teleology / Devin Henry
Aristotelian responsibility / John M. Cooper
Making sense of Arcesilaus / Casey Perin
Essence and being : a discussion of Michail Peramatzis, Priority in Aristotle's Metaphysics / Marko Malink.
